Wipe your iPhone

Should you forget your password or PIN or you are having trouble updating your iPhone, it may be necessary to erase your iPhone and perform a clean re-install of the latest iOS. This is relatively easy and consists of 2 methods, the standard wipe, and something called DFU mode, which is a last resort. Both methods require the use of a laptop or desktop with the latest version of iTunes installed, and are explained below....

Standard Wipe/Install:

Turn off your iPhone.

Ensure your laptop/desktop is on and with the latest version of iTunes installed and open.

Plug the USB end of the charge lead into an available USB port on your laptop/desktop.

Hold down the home button on your iPhone (the round one on the front near the bottom) andkeeping it held down, insert the other end of the charge lead into your iPhone. Keep the home button held down until the "connect to iTunes" message comes up on your iPhone.

Your laptop/desktop will now prompt you on completing the process.

DFU Mode Wipe/Install

This is a slightly more complicated method of wiping your iPhone and re-installing a clean iOS, and timing is essential, so may take some time to get right.

Ensure your laptop/desktop is on and with the latest version of iTunes installed and open.

Plug the USB end of the charge lead into an available USB port on your laptop/desktop, and the other end of the lead into your iPhone.

Turn off your iPhone, but ensure it remains plugged into the charge lead.

Heres the tricky bit, read through it first and work out the timing before you begin.

Press and HOLD the power button to turn on the phone.

After 3 SECONDS, ALSO hold down the home button, and hold the 2 buttons together for 10 SECONDS. (after 7 seconds the phone will turn off ... KEEP holding both buttons for a further 3 seconds)

Release the POWER button and keep the HOME held down.

Your laptop/desktop will make the "device connected" sound and will install a driver quickly, then your iTunes will prompt you to re-install the iOS.

The phone screen WILL REMAIN BLANK. This is normal and is how you can tell that you have sucessfully entered DFU mode.

If the Apple logo appears after the reset, then your timing was off and try again from the beginning.
